Thomas Anthony Trapani

-SAVANNAH- Thomas Anthony Trapani, 79 of Savannah, Georgia, died on Thursday, October 13, 2011 in Gainesville, Georgia following an extended illness.
Tommy was born in Savannah Georgia on December 29, 1931 to John and Mary Trapani, the youngest of eight children. He was raised in Savannah and graduated from Benedictine Military School in 1949. After graduation, he attended Xavier College his freshman year on a football scholarship. After his freshman year, he joined the United States Air Force where he served for four years. He achieved the rank of Airman First Class while serving as a navigator on a B-29 Superfortress bomber. Upon receiving an honorable discharge in 1954, he enrolled in Auburn University where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree majoring in Construction Engineering. Upon graduation from Auburn, he entered the construction industry where he worked in both the private and public sector most recently with the Corp. of Engineers at Fort Stewart in Hinesville, Georgia where he retired in the late 80's. Tommy enjoyed many interests during his retirement including golf, shooting, computers, and traveling with Monica. After the love of his family, his next greatest love was the Auburn Tigers. He could often be found reading about and watching Auburn sports and greeting you with "War Eagle".
He was preceded in death by his wife Monica Ulivo Trapani, and his daughter, Monica Trapani Hughs. He is survived by his Son-In-Law David Johnson Hughs and his wife Shannon of Gainesville, GA, grandchildren Brian Thomas Hughs and his wife Callie of Gainesville, GA, Natalie Hughs Kinard and her husband Will of Greenville, SC, and Nathan Terrell Hughs of Gainesville, GA. He is also survived by his brother Bert L. Trapani, and was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: John M. Trapani, Jr., Robert Reid Trapani, Mary Lovett Trapani, Julia Trapani Cannon, Frances Trapani Stafford and Rita Trapani Maner. He is survived by multiple nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Blesssed Sacrament Catholic Church, followed by a Vigil Service at 7:00 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 14, 2011, at Blessed Sacrament Church.
Interment will follow in Catholic Cemetery.
